Umar Akmal Suspended For Breaching PCB Code, Not For 'Mother From Another Brother' Slip Up

Death, taxes and Umar Akmal's date with controversies - these are the true constants of our times. If he was in the news form his caption slip up a day back, he has now made headlines again after being suspended for breaching Anti-Corruption code.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement but didn’t reveal the details behind the suspension. Akmal was charged under Article 4.7.1 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, under which the PCB can “in circumstances where it considers that the integrity of the sport could otherwise be seriously undermined, to Provisionally Suspend the Participant pending the Anti-Corruption Tribunal’s determination of whether he/she has committed an offence.”

Akmal will therefore be disallowed from taking part in any cricket-related activity under the PCB, "pending the investigation being carried out by PCB's Anti-Corruption Unit".

It is not the first time that Umar Akmal has been reprimanded. Few weeks back, he was in the news for stripping and abusing a trainer during the the fitness test. He will now be out indefinitely and his hopes of playing at the T20 World Cup have taken a massive hit.

After the news of his suspension was confirmed, Umar Akmal’s PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators have roped in Anwar Ali as the replacement for him. The wicket-keeper batsman, Akmal could have provided a good amount of experience to the Gladiators as he has featured in 84 T20Is during his career. He aggregated 1,690 runs for Pakistan while playing in the shortest format of the game.

His replacement, Anwar Ali is a fast-bowling all-rounder who has only played 16 T20 internationals in his career. In those matches, he has amassed 109 runs with his highest score being 46. With the ball, he has picked up 10 wickets at an economy rate of 8.31.

Umar Akmal’s suspension will prove to be a big loss for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League 2020.
