Wife Of Army Major Who Died Fighting Terrorists In Pulwama Set To Don Uniform Her Husband Loved
On the first death anniversary of her husband, Nitika Kaul is all set to pay him the most befitting tribute possible by following his footsteps to join the Indian Army.
Nitika, the wife of Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, who was killed during a gun battle with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on February 18, just days after the terror attack on a CRPF convoy which killed 40 service personnel.
The 34-year-old was part of a search and destroy operation team which was looking for the terrorists responsible for the Pulwama attack. Though several JeM militants including Pakistani terrorist and the 'Chief Operational Commander' of JEM Kamran alias Ghazi Rashid, the mastermind of the IED assault on the CRPF convoy were killed in the encounter, Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal along with Sep Ajay Kumar, Sep Hari Singh, and Hav Sheo Ram also lost their lives.
The images of Nitika paying tribute to her husband at his funeral had made the nation cry with her. Now exactly a year after Dhoundiyal's martyrdom, Nikita is all set to join the Indian Army.
She has cleared the written exam and interview of the Staff Selection Commission and is waiting for the publication of the merit list. Nitika whose family is originally from Kashmir said it was her way of paying tribute to her husband.
"Vibhu was a walking manifestation of every possible virtue. Love, compassion, bravery, intelligence and helping others. I will make him proud. Our love can't vanish till we live and tales of his bravery will inspire generations," Nitika told The New Indian Express.
Nikita who used to work with an MNC in Delhi has left the job to wear the uniform, which she says makes her feel closer to her husband. On Tuesday, on the first anniversary of their martyrdom, the Indian Army remembered the four heroes who gave their lives for the nation.

On Monday, the Supreme Court had ordered the Centre to ensure that women officers are given a permanent commission in the Army while adding that the officers will be now eligible for command posting. Around 1,500 women Army personnel are likely to benefit from the Supreme Court order.
